Before you ask how much it costs to open a business in Dubai: read this.
In this blog I explain why there is no fixed price to open a company in Dubai and how to choose between Mainland and Free Zones depending on your business structure.
"How much does it cost to open a business in Dubai?"
It's definitely one of the questions I hear the most. And although it seems simple, the answer rarely is.
The reality is that there's no single price to start a business in Dubai . And far from being a problem, understanding this early on is what makes the difference between a solid foundation and a hasty decision that ends up costing you dearly.
In other my previous posts I have already discussed the different jurisdictions in the United Arab Emirates, with Mainland and Free Zones being the most common.
At first glance, it may seem that:
Mainland has more “stable” prices
Free Zones offer very attractive "all-inclusive" packages
But the reality is more complex.

Mainland: more consistent prices, but not fixed.
In the case of Mainland, although costs may seem more constant, the final price always depends on the specific project.
Factors such as the type of license , the number of activities included, the corporate structure , the need for visas , the physical office , or certain regulatory requirements all have an influence.
That's why two companies with Mainland licenses rarely pay the same, even though they may look similar on paper.
Free Zones: where the "fixed price" is often an illusion
With Free Zones, the idea of a fixed price is even more misleading.
In the UAE there are more than 45 Free Zones , each with its own rules, tariffs, sector specialization and level of compliance requirements.
So...
Why is it so common to see online offers with fixed prices for opening a business in a Free Zone?
Because many consulting firms only work with one or two Free Zones with which they have commercial agreements and receive commissions per client.
That doesn't mean that Free Zone is bad. It means it might not be the right one for you.
What nobody tells you about Free Zones
Each Free Zone is a world unto itself:
Some have a better banking reputation
Others allow you to open very quickly.
Some require greater compliance
Others have more complex communication with the authorities
Some have agreements that allow them to sell or distribute in Mainland.
Others prohibit it completely.
Therefore, price should never be the starting point , but rather the consequence of a well-made decision .
The right question is not which is the cheapest option, but which structure will allow you to operate safely today and grow seamlessly tomorrow.
If a Free Zone is the right option for your business, there's one out there that's a good fit. The challenge is identifying the right one.
